Oxidation of Carbon Disulphide as the Sole Source of Energy for the Autotrophic Growth of Thiobacillus thioparus Strain TK
The ability of microorganisms to grow on carbon disulphide (CS,) as a sole source of carbon and energy appears to be very limited : none was obtained from enrichment culture and eight Thiobacillus species could not use it. Thiobacillus thioparus strain TK-m could grow autotrophically on either CS2 or carbonyl sulphide (COS) as sole substrates. Growth yield on CS2 was 7.9 f 0.9 g cell-carbon (mo...
متن کاملLight activation of the plant enzyme which oxidizes glycolic acid.
A wide variety of plants contains enzymes capable of rapidly oxidizing l-lactic, glycolic, and glyoxylic acids (1). Although the enzyme oxidizing glycolic acid was found in the green parts of many plants, it was absent from roots and etiolated seedlings. However, the active enzyme could be obtained from etiolated barley or bean seedlings that had been illuminated for several hours. This suggest...
متن کاملTungsten disulphide sheathed carbon nanotubes.
An insulated nanotube wire is formed by the binary phase of layered tungsten disulphide and carbon nanotubes (shown in the HRTEM image) generated by the sulphidization of tungsten oxide coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes at 900 °C. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the tungsten disulphide coat acts as an antioxidant.
متن کاملThiosulphate Oxidation by Thiobacillus Strain C
1. Thiobacillus strain C oxidized [35S]thiosulphate completely to sulphate. 2. During thiosulphate oxidation [35S]sulphate was formed more rapidly from (S. 35SO3)2than from (35S *SO3)2-. 35S disappeared less rapidly from thiosulphate with (35S SO3)2as substrate than with (S.35SO3)2-. 3. Thiosulphate labelled in both atoms was produced during (35S * SO3)2oxidation, but not during (S. 35SO3)2oxid...
متن کاملReduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide oxidation by Thiobacillus neapolitanus and Thiobacillus strain C.
A. J. Smith, J. London, and R. Y. Stanier (J. Bacteriol. 94:972, 1967) reported that a number of obligate autotrophs, including Thiobacillus thiooxidans and T. thioparus, lacked reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH2) oxidase activity, although this activity was readily detected in the facultative autotrophs T. intermedius and Hydrogenomonas eutropha. They suggested that the absence o...
